The Unidad Independencia is located south of Mexico City. It was conceived as part of improving the social security offered by the Mexican government, which included in addition to pensions, healthcare and housing for workers, through architectural solutions designed to ensure personal security to the inhabitants. Room but not only services, use of green areas and good location in relation to the movement necessary for the workplace in that area of the city. It was built considering the cost savings with durable materials (annealed hollow brick, stone breaststroke, boulders, hydraulic cement), and under the Neighborhood Unit urban design through three distinct residential neighborhoods inspired by the concept of "Hospitals-people" Basque Quiroga . The housing development and services, "Unidad Independencia", consists of 2.235 homes in the condominium property regime with a population of 10.000 inhabitants (about 55% female) on the uneven surface of the Loma El Batan and an average density of 270 inhabitants per hectare, of which two thirds are green areas, 23% floor area and other streets and parking lots.

The neighborhood is a synthesis of the experience accumulated by the IMSS with the construction of 10 housing units; integrated service facilities including a supermarket and three shopping areas, a fitness center, clinic, 5 school buildings, nursery, indoor theater with 400 seats , outdoor theater, cinema with 1,200 locations, a Civic Plaza, a social building (now occupied by facilities of IMSS), social security center. All homes have a correct orientation east-west and are 635 single family homes of 2 and 3 bedrooms, 36 multifamily buildings (including 1.500 apartments) and 3 towers with 100 apartments considered "luxury" at the time of its construction. The vehicular traffic was met with a perimeter avenue, lined with hydraulic cement driveways and walking through that intercommunicate.
